Random Fic Thought/Question

So I was reading some fics the other day, and this thought occurred to me:

There are certain things that can totally turn me off about a story, even if it's something I have really liked right up until that point.  For me, if at any point the characters feel the need to clarify their relationship, perhaps by saying, "So are we dating now?" or "Does this make you my girlfriend?", then I am out.

I just totally lose interest in a story at that point.  This holds true for any fandom I read fics in.

Do other people have this trigger, (without being specific about stories or authors - this isn't to bash anyone's writing), or am I the only one?

Fortunately, I have yet to read a fic where Booth asks Brennan if she's his girlfriend now. *dies* :P But if I did, I'd laugh my ass off.

Believe me, there's nothing funnier. And it's not just Booth and Bones. I read a lot of Harry Potter and the stuff in that fandom can be brutal. Sometimes I'm cruising along in a fic, liking it just fine, and then *bam!* an adult, post-Hogwarts character asks another if they're boyfriend and girlfriend. Talk about letting the wind out of your sails. Geez.

Ha! I bet it kills an otherwise good story. It seems like something PARKER might say to a girl, rather than something an adult would ask another adult.

Exactly. In fact, I like the idea of Parker saying it. Anyone else and I'm disgusted.
