Okay. If you haven't read the spoilers for the Season 4 finale stop HERE.
Seriously, you have been warned.
No really. You've been warned. A LOT. DO NOT CLICK. DO NOT PASS GO.
From what I've gathered, Booth and Brennan are having sex in the Season 4 finale. Apparently they are having sex because Brennan wants Booth to father her child. (I haven't actually read that verbatim anywhere, but I'm no dummy. I can put two and two together like a champ.) Booth apparently doesn't feel as clinical and detached about this as Brennan. Hart Hansen thinks this is a good plot device.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!
I feel better now that I've shout-typed that.
I think this is a horrible idea. To use the popular "jump the shark" metaphor: they are strapping on the water-skis with the Fonz. Goof!Booth is annoying, but Pregnant!Brennan may be the last straw. I have stood by this show through a lot and it kills me to think I won't always love it. I will watch every episode between now and the finale, and pass judgment then. I just had to get this out.

Date: 2009-03-15 05:00 am (UTC)I can only take a little of Goof!Booth before I get bored. And I don't really get the whole pregnant Brennan idea - I think it is a little too soon for her to have a complete reversal on such an important topic.
It's not that I can't understand that she might have a change of heart - with her father coming back into her life, with the family she has built up with the lab people, with her developing 'human-ness' over the past seasons, I can see her changing her mind on the 'no kids' stance.
But not yet.
And not that way - having sex with Booth as a sperm donor? Puh-leaze! She would hand him a cup and a skin mag, shake his 'deposit' up in a turkey baster, and do the deed herself before flying off to identify remains in some jungle.
Whew! I feel better too!

Date: 2009-03-15 10:16 am (UTC)Can't stop now but just know that I feel exactly the same way - Space and I have been OMG!no way I can't take it aaaaahhhh kill me-emailing each other on the same topic this weekend.
I think you are entirely correct in your above suspicions and I think I very well might cry.

Date: 2009-03-15 09:24 pm (UTC)I would absolutely love to be wrong. But I'm pretty sure I'm not. What really bothers me is that DB and HH - based on the quotes I've read - think this is a fantastic idea.
DB with his quote about "step away from the keyboard"? Get real. If it weren't for my love for this fandom and the characters as they were introduced to us (certainly not as they have been developed) - I wouldn't be at this keyboard RIGHT NOW.
(Sorry for rant addendum - DB's attitude annoys the crap out of me.)
I love you guys :)

Date: 2009-03-15 02:05 pm (UTC)And I don't know about you guys, but David saying in that Q&A session that [and I massively paraphrase cause I'm too lazy to go find the real quote] "the fans would love it and for us to take a step away from our keyboards and go get some Nestle Quik..."
That does NOTHING to reassure me. Especially when Hanson and Nathanson come out with their little vague hints and... shit, I really am nauseous now. It's really interesting when the stress over a TV show starts to manifest itself physically in your person. Headaches yday, nausea today... *sigh*
Stepping away from the computer now... to where my RL is nothing resembling a soap opera.

Date: 2009-03-15 09:55 pm (UTC)Oh don't get me started. You really don't want to. Brennan has a family now, friends, she is better at dealing with people in her life. She had grown so much. The scene with Jared Booth, when she hit him because she realized he had made her doubt Booth's courage? Her fear that Booth would never forgive her for not knowing him, trusting him, better was so real - so powerful. Yes, I thought - she is growing, developing, becoming a fully integrated emotional AND intelligent human...
Oh God. What happened? She is has even less EQ now, is more arrogant, less in touch with her own feelings and other peoples' - she is devolving at such a rapid pace she has actually gone back further than the beginning of the show. What a pity that the writers and the producers have destroyed what was an interesting character in the name of...
Well, of what? What does this accomplish? It doesn't make Booth look any better - the last few seasons he was mentoring her, watching her, proud when she learned, patient when she couldn't. Now he's just... just... well, I don't know what he is. Not Booth. Not even a good Goof!Booth.
I'd like to blame Sweets for pushing Brennan back, but I don't think it is fair. Even though he sucks.
If it weren't for Cam (I have a total girl-crush on Cam) and Mr Nigel-Murray (I have a completely different kind of crush on Vincent Nigel-Murray!) I would stop watching altogether.
It took me three season to get into the show (I prefer the Tempe Brennan in the original fiction series, usually), but I have been struggling since the Yanks in merrie-olde-England pip-pip-what-what season opener (two episodes I still haven't been able to watch all the way through). Please, someone, explain to Borenaz that even a genius like Kenneth Branagh ran into problems when he tried to play God, as well as direct and produce!
