'Cinderella' and 'Mayhem' Post-ep Reaction

I watched both eps back to back, so it feels like one long one. This may be rambly - just a warning :)

- The last scene of 'Cinderella' was fantastic. DH actually was watching with me and he loved her taking the bottle and giving him the glass. He also admitted that he couldn't watch without staring at her boobs in that outfit.

- I thought the Hodgins/Angela moment at the bar was really angsty goodness. Those two are destined! (PS - How did Wendell get such hot friends?)

-Who doesn't love Gordon Gordon?

- Am I an idiot but which one of them is he saying is fighting the attraction? I've always assumed Booth, but something about the last scene in Sweets office just seemed like it was her. Maybe I'm just slow but it didn't seem obvious that it was one vs the other - it seemed like both of them are fighting it pretty hard.

- Her admission about the foster family broke my heart - loved that it broke Booth's too. I thought he was going to cry.

-I'm glad we found out more about Sweets, and this ep seemed like Wyatt was passing the torch to him, which I can live with now I think

- All in all, I loved the second ep and only liked the first. I'm starting to get a feel for how they plan to have her character undergo some changes this season, leading up to the finale.

What about everyone else?

I think that my key word is Attraction.

Yes, this is the word that made me think from the beginning of the ep that it could truly be Brennan that GG is talking about. And maybe it wasn't, but I instantly interpreted that final scene as it being Brennan. The attraction and not knowing what to do with that (hence her question of Booth in Cinderella re: love) is something I can completely see her struggling with. I think Booth would be able to accept that fact and move past it to feeling something deeper. Indeed, I'm sure that he already has.

But then...
I'll read some incredibly insightful comments from someone and I'm back to thinking that it's Booth.

Agreed! Because if I were to look at that final scene just by itself, I think that Brennan really shows no sign of struggling/wanting something more. Booth wants Brennan's hand to stay right there over his pocket, over his heart, and he looks so conflicted and confused in that moment. (I feel like I'm sounding so damn sappy right now, but anyway...) I feel like the title of the book is what that really made me decide--it's gotta be Brennan. But people make such compelling arguments for it being Booth.

I know that I will waffle back and forth until we're finally told who it is.

And I'm so afraid that we won't! I just posted that I think that this mystery may even be better than what the letter said in AitS... and that we may never know. I actually sometimes love how they leave some stuff to audience interpretation. It's what makes such a fertile ground for fanfic!

Oh, god! We will probably never know what that letter said. But I think you're right...sometimes it is wonderful when it's left to the audience's imagination.

I propose we have an ep called The Heart of the Matter next season and find out what Sweets found so obvious in that moment. Because, he must be a pretty damn good psychologist if he can discern. They both looked pretty enamored of one another in that handkerchief scene.

I have to wonder about the content of Sweets' book... and how obvious it is that it's Booth and Brennan... because if it's just about them and no one else, and he isn't careful, then his suppositions about their sublimated attraction could cause problems for them... don't you think???

Assuming that they don't out themselves prior to the book being released.

I just read a really interesting post on a forum that proposed that it wasn't that Sweets saw which one was aware and struggling, but that what he saw was that they aren't the opposites that he thought they were... this person also said... oh heck... I'm just going to quote directly:

"With the ongoing threads of metaphorical marks and scars, Booth's story touches Bones' heart and she goes one further and physically touches his.

And then with the pan to Sweets' manuscript at the end - right down to the changed title - they give the audience the answer. He sees now it's not about opposites, it's not about jobs, it's about the love, it's about how they care and feel for each other - the heart - they have between them. And the matters, thereof."

I thought that was very insightful.. and still leaves the "who" part up to the watcher.

I wrote some cracked out fic last Christmas where this happens. lol

I don't think Booth and Brennan realize what they are getting themselves into with this. I think it will be completely obvious to anyone who knows them that they are the subjects of this book. And having it just thrown into their face that they are attracted to each other--well, they won't really be able to avoid this fact quite so easily anymore.

That is such a poignant observation. I'm so very glad you linked over to that comment. In my shippery-haze I pretty much forgot all about the fact that GG also told Sweets that B&B are very much alike. And that's the whole point of the show--two people who superficially are opposites but come to share this deep love and respect, who ultimately share so much with one another. (And maybe some crime-solving thrown in there too.)

This totally makes sense. With the history and background we were given on Sweets, and the way they have been hammering the idea of metaphorical marks and real (and metaphorical) scars - this really could be the whole idea they were getting at. It's not for us to know "who is fighting their feelings" but that Sweets now understands what they are all about.

Isn't it interesting that GG was all about "they're just partners" before when he was there, and now he's the one telling Sweets it's the exact opposite - they are way more than partners?

I'm still waffling along with you for the most part. I'm actually going to watch the ep again now that I've read all these fab comments and ideas, so I'll have a different perspective.

I agree that I wish we'd be told for sure - but doubt it!

For me the fact that he said 'attraction' is not so much of an issue. They are not going to have GG turn around and say 'One of them is head over heels in love with the other...' it would be too OTT.

Also I am not sure what Sweets meant by the change of title - but I'm thinking he changed it before he saw what GG meant, so it doesn't have a bearing on my Booth-reasoning either.

You are so spot on about that scene. And when Booth asked if she was okay - that was a big part of it for me too. He was all about her.

Mainly I see this as the progression of Booth's character from someone we all 'think' is crazy about Brennan, to someone that the show has now confirmed is. I feel like that is really important, both for his character and for the show. I think that's why I'm so worked up about it!

ETA: I don't think we'll ever be explicitly told who it is, but I do think that it will play into their actions in upcoming eps :)

ETA2: (sorry) I also should say they write GG's dialogue very much in that British stiff upper lip way - he would use the word attraction to mean everything from finding someone attractive to full on wanting their babies, I'm sure ;)

Exactly! Which is nice, because it's easy enough to say he acts like he's in love, but it's great to have it more or less confirmed that he is.

I could talk about this all day, too!! I try not to talk about it too much about the show in real life. Otherwise, I'd surely out myself as an obsessed fangirl.

LOL me too! I don't have any RL friends to talk about it with. My sister watches the show, but she's not a TV geek like me so there's only so far she will dig into it.. and she is all about the Hodgins/Angela love anyway.

My dh actually watches it more and more closely, but I am very wary of getting too geeky about it.. I see him start to glaze over. He teases me mercilessly and thinks the term 'shipper' is the funniest thing he's ever heard ;)

I don't think anyone knows what shipper means outside of fandoms. I find myself using it sometimes--i.e.: "I'm a Harry/Hermione shipper." whenever people mention Harry Potter. And I get these big blank stares.

I have a 9pm meeting nearly every night at my school paper and people pretty much know to expect me to be late the nights that Bones and House are on. I get text messages during the meetings asking me how the eps ended. lol I just find it hard to watch a show like Bones and not get wrapped up in it!

That's great you got your husband to watch it with you though! My dad watches it with me sometimes, but only to prove how "easy" it is for him to figure out who the murderer was.

Ah yes, for all the millions of people on the internet, somehow no one I know in RL will admit to knowing the word "shipper". I actually caught myself saying to a friend that is obsessed with Harry Potter that I "ship Draco and Ginny" and she seriously gave me a blank stare. C'mon, just admit it already. :)

And my DH does the same thing as your dad - blurts out 'whodunit' theories throughout the ep. It drives me nuts!

And good for you for being a Draco/Ginny shipper. Ginny & Harry together makes me sick. Clearly I found Book 6 a little traumatic. :)

You know what my DH thinks - although Emily's eye-popping cleavage keeps him tuned in, lol.

He makes fun of me for the obsession so I try to tone it down except with you guys.
