What Are We Reading/Writing?

I hope to get several responses on this, because I am quite curious. What fandoms do my friends read/write? I always wonder if ya'll are devoted only to one fandom, or like me, you find yourself wandering from one to another? I always come back to my first love, 'Bones', but I do wander frequently to 'Pirates', specifically anything with Capt. Jack Sparrow.
(Side note - a girlfriend and I had a lengthy debate the other day about David Boreanaz vs. Johnny Depp, and had quite a list of pros and cons for each. I'll not bore you with the details here, but I think it was a tie - while David is taller, Johnny is well, Johnny.)
Can't wait to hear what holds our collective attention.

Date: 2008-02-20 04:24 pm (UTC)D'you know what, I was just pondering this the other day. I think it might have been after reading that terrific POTC fic you recommended. I like those films, and love Jack Sparrow - what sane woman wouldn't? But I hadn't thought about searching out fic before.
I have written both Doctor Who and X Files before (although I wrote the X Files many years ago before the net really took off - blimey I'm old!) and have since read both too.
With me I think it's all about the ship, sappy as that is. I followed the X Files for many years and as much as I found the concept of the show enjoyable, if it wasn't for the Mulder and Scully relationship I doubt I'd have kept watching for all that time.
With Doctor Who the same almost applies, although Rose/Ninth Doctor was my OTP and once they were cruelly torn apart (!) I kept watching.
The reason I think I end up reading / writing fanfic for these shows is because what we only dream of happening for the characters can and does happen in fic.
I've also read bits of Superman fic and Robin Hood (BBC), but haven't ever got as in to it as with Bones. It's the old chemistry thang! Plus the sheer hotness of David B of course.
Will be interested to see what everyone else reads/writes.

Date: 2008-02-21 07:17 pm (UTC)Mind you, X Files went on practically as long before they hooked up. I never felt completely satisfied with that either. Am looking forward to seeing the new film, see what, if any, relationship they are still meant to be having.

Date: 2008-02-22 01:23 am (UTC)That almost-kiss in the first one was what hooked me on the 'ship. Until then I had only seen an episode here or there, and wasn't into them as a couple. Very interested to see where this movie goes.

Date: 2008-02-20 04:44 pm (UTC)Personally, I'm Bones all the way at the moment; I'd never read/written any fic before edging into the Bones fandom last year, and I'm pretty happy there now. It's probably the chemistry thing for me too, so if I'd been a little older, maybe I would've gotten into X-Files stuff too (because I was probably still watching Sesame Street when X-Files was on the air), but I find that the supporting characters in Bones also make the fics in Bonesville that little bit more enjoyable.
I have (briefly) ventured into the Buffy/Angel fics, but mostly because I was in procrastination mode and some Bones authors had written BA stuff. It was interesting, but it's been so long since I watched BtVS (never watched Angel) that I don't think I would be able to get into that very easily. That, and the fandom is fricking huge. :)
*looks at ramble* Wow, I'd say almost 50% of that was on topic...

Date: 2008-02-23 03:23 am (UTC)I started out watching GG a while ago, and that's how I found fanfiction, but then I found Bones (which is to me like a combination of two of my favorite shows-CSI and Gilmore Girls-that makes Bones more addicting than the other two!) and that's what I've stuck with lately.
I haven't really read any other stories that are from a different show, but I'm sure at some point I will (right now I'm definitely thinking of taking a look at the POTC fic you suggested).
