Twilight Series ...

I know this came up several months ago but what are ya'll's opinions ("ya'll" is a word, let's get that out of the way) on the 'Twilight' series, by Stephanie Meyer? I read the first book yesterday (yes, in 4 hours) and I'm not sure I want to commit to this series. It was good, and obviously a pretty easy read, but seriously, do I want to get emotionally involved here or not? I can't seem to make up my mind if I want to make the emotional investment. Or will there be and emotional investment? Anyway, I know you gals won't steer me wrong.

Date: 2009-01-04 11:29 pm (UTC)Twilight is one of those things that I will completely admit to loving, while acknowledging that it's undeniably ridiculous. It really is just over the top, teenage angst... and while I shake my head over all the drama, secretly I loved it, because I remember how utterly dramatic I (and seemingly everything around me)was when I was in high school.
That said, I hated almost all of the final installment. I flew through the first three books and then took several weeks to read the last one, because I just could not make myself focus on it.

Date: 2009-01-05 12:38 am (UTC)I have heard negative reviews for the last book from other sources so I think that's why I'm so hesitant to get any further involved. Plus, it is totally over the top and ridiculous, although I was fascinated. Perfect for teens but maybe we've aged out?

*is unhelpful and suitably contrite*

There's a not totally evil, broody vampire type and he knows this totally evil vampire type who - oh, has slicked back blond hair?
Where have I heard that before I can't quite put my finger on it....
Seriously, I know I shouldn't judge before reading but...

Seriously, like I told Bertie, Angel didn't sparkle ...
He's the penultimate for me, so I'm not sure I can buy into this series. Still pondering ...

ETA: "Edward in the sunlight was shocking. I couldn’t get used to it, though I’d been staring at him all afternoon. His skin, white despite the faint flush from yesterday’s hunting trip, literally sparkled, like thousands of tiny diamonds were embedded in the surface."
Also, at one point Edward asks Bella, "Do I dazzle you?"
For realsies. *shakes head*

"Who's your shiny new boyf .. no literally, he's shiny?"

(all girls, naturally - my boy refuses to even open the book).
So I guess it depends on your feelings about abstinence, true lurve forever, and sparkly vampires.
My thoughts? (I read a lot of YA). Meh.
